SPARE, S.A. has a mixed profile, providing Engineering and Trading services. Founded in 1985, throughout its history it has achieved major technical and commercial success.
The Engineering section has secured a strong reputation in various sectors, such as the Railways, with one of its first contracts being to supply steel for two-block railroad ties for the Nacala/Entre-Lagos line in Mozambique. This Contract was funded by the European Development Fund and was the first contract secured by a Spanish company following the country's recent entry into the European Community, in around the year 1986. Subsequently, for years, we supplied two different types of steel and elements for Vossloh fastenings, chiefly in Portugal. During this initial period (1988), we also perfected the design and supply of parts that fasten track to railroad ties without ballast, for use in the “Cross-Channel Link”, probably one of SPARE's greatest technical and commercial successes in the course of its history.
The Industrial sector in general and specifically the Cement and Mining sectors have also been the object of substantial development over many years. We have supplied all kinds of machinery and equipment, full and automated bagging installations, repairs and renovations of Clinker kilns, pinions, crowns, collars, grinding balls, dosage and weighing installations, ventilation systems... and a whole lot more, not forgetting other complements such as raw materials or different kinds of steel, from billet to tin plate.
Finally, the sector that we have progressively consolidated since just before the year 2000 and up to the present day, and which has secured our status are true specialists on a global scale is, within the Hydraulic Engineering and Assembly section, the design, supply and installation of inflatable rubber dams. All the Projects in which we have taken part in Spain and Portugal right from the outset of this activity have been awarded to us as contracts. The experience gained in this specific sector is, therefore, of the highest level, and is now beginning to be exported to other places, mainly Ibero-America. Since 2008, this activity has been carried out by EuroSpare, Lda. which is based in Portugal.
